Our Goal: Fewer Emissions through Greater Responsibility

The excessively high concentration of CO2 in our atmosphere has far-reaching consequences for both people and the environment. Heatwaves, rising sea levels, and desertification are just a few examples of the impacts of human-induced climate change. In Germany, we feel the effects of climate change just as people in the Global South do. However, the impacts are far more severe in these regions.

That's why we actively work to create climate justice and clearly address the responsibility of those causing the emissions: the Global North. Our mission is to reduce and ideally avoid greenhouse gases. We achieve this through consultations, training sessions, and workshops, as well as through financial contributions to certified climate protection projects that reduce CO2 emissions and promote sustainable development. You can support us in this mission!

With your KlimaPlus contribution, you can help reduce global emissions and contribute to a more sustainable future for all. Join us in taking responsibility and making a tangible impact on climate protection and global justice.

The Paris Agreement

The Paris Agreement has tightened the rules for offsetting greenhouse gas emissions. Previously, CO2 certificates from climate protection projects in partner countries could be purchased to offset one's own emissions. In the future, it will no longer be as simple to offset domestic greenhouse gases by paying for projects abroad. Every country that has ratified the Paris Agreement must now actively reduce the emissions it produces. This also applies to countries in the Global South. Each country sets its own climate targets (NDCs), based on its national circumstances, priorities, and capacities.

The transfer of emission reductions must now be approved through a "corresponding adjustment". Emission credits that are backed by corresponding adjustments will be difficult to generate. They represent a bureaucratic hurdle for partner countries and carry the risk that reductions might be counted both in an NDC and sold as offset certificates. This adjustment also means that the CO2 emissions saved in the projects and used as corresponding adjustments for compensation must be deducted from the national climate target (NDC) of the respective country, even though the savings are achieved by the people in the projects.

We remain committed to supporting high-quality projects and genuine emission reductions. With our new offering, we ensure that the emission reductions we provide contribute to achieving these climate goals in the respective country, thereby effectively avoiding double counting. With the KlimaPlus contribution, we help ensure that efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are transparent and effective.

Contribution Claims as a Viable Alternative to Offsetting/Corresponding Adjustments

Contribution Claims offer a modern alternative to traditional offsetting. Through voluntary payments, such as the KlimaPlus contribution, you can take responsibility for our climate and promote global emission reductions without counting them towards your own carbon balance. The KlimaPlus contribution enables true transformation, effectively addresses the climate crisis, and avoids greenwashing. Contributing without expecting anything in return and helping achieve the global net-zero goal through real global emission reductions? This is now possible with the Contribution Claim model from Klima-Kollekte.

Our New Path

With the KlimaPlus contribution, we create a tool that paves the way to greater climate justice. These principles guide us:

1. We support global emission reductions:** Our projects aim to reduce greenhouse gases worldwide.

2. We align with the Paris Climate Agreement:** Our actions are in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

3. We act in the spirit of climate justice:** We advocate for a fair distribution of the burdens of climate change.

4. We avoid greenwashing:** We reject the misleading term "climate neutral" and focus on real emission reductions.

5. We adhere to the polluter pays principle:** Responsibility lies with those who cause emissions.

6. We prevent double counting of emission reductions:** Our projects ensure that reductions are not counted multiple times.

With the KlimaPlus contribution and the Contribution Claim model from Klima-Kollekte, you can make a significant impact in combating the climate crisis while ensuring your support reaches those who need it most.

Our Projects

With the KlimaPlus contribution, we financially support the climate protection projects of our partner organizations in the Global South. These projects demonstrably avoid or reduce emissions. For example, CO2 emissions are reduced when people use more efficient, energy-saving cookstoves that require less wood for cooking. Similarly, CO2 is significantly reduced when communities in India are supplied with biogas plants, enabling the use of green energy.

A Clear Plus for the KlimaPlus Contribution

These context-appropriate new technologies create better living conditions for the local people: Clean air means improved health and quality of life in the community. Additionally, the people involved in the projects earn more income and gain more security. The strenuous and time-consuming task of collecting firewood and the long cooking times are reduced, giving families more free time.

This multiplies the impact of your KlimaPlus contribution: Besides reducing CO2, our projects contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). You can find which SDGs these are on our project page. All the projects we support are certified by the Gold Standard.

The Path to Your Contribution

You can calculate your emissions using our CO2 calculator. Enter the source of the emissions: a flight, an event, or car journeys. The calculator will determine the exact amount of greenhouse gases emitted and show the recommended contribution. Alternatively, you can decide how much you want to contribute, based on a personalized greenhouse gas balance that we can create for you. Contact us for assistance!

How is the KlimaPlus Contribution Composed?

One ton of CO2 costs €25. The cost and therefore the price of a ton of CO2 depend on the size of the project, the technology used, and the country where the project is implemented. Large projects generally have lower costs per ton than smaller ones.

To simplify pricing, we calculate an average price of €25 per ton, including administrative costs. This ensures a consistent price for each contribution towards our projects.

Of the €25, €3 covers administrative costs at Klima-Kollekte. Additionally, €1 supports our educational work and €1 is saved in our future fund, providing a special reserve for investments or financial support for our projects.
